This week Dartmouth was delighted to host a group of Mayflower Descendants visiting the town. The group are on a 12 day Mayflower Tour of the UK and Holland organised by Reformation Tours.
The group, between them, are descendants of George Soule, Francis Cooke, John Howland, John Alden, Samuel Fuller, Pricilla Mullin, William Brewster, James Chilton & William Bradford
We met with Sara Soule Chapman, President of Soule Kindred a group who are linked together as descendants of George Soule. George was one of the Mayflower Pilgrim passengers who sailed from England in 1620 arriving in the US to set up a new life and one of the signatories’ on the Mayflower Compact. Sara along with the rest of the group, enjoyed a fabulous Cream Tea at The Royal Castle Hotel hosted by Laura Campbell, Destination Marketing for Dartmouth Mayflower 400 with introductions from Rob Lyon, Chair of Dartmouth Mayflower 400. Sara is descended from George Soule and can also trace her ancestry back to the Mullins and the Aldens. In addition Sara’s husband Rob is a descendant of Brewster.
As part of their afternoon with us some of the group presented these fabulous handmade pennants to Dartmouth Mayflower 400 for inclusion in our ‘dressing the town’ in 2020. The pennants were presented to Rose Williams who is co-ordinating this task for Dartmouth Mayflower 400. Dartmouth’s Stitchery group currently have a total of over 3000 pennants, rapidly heading towards their goal of over 4000! For more information about the Pennants see our Projects page. And now with these additional ones (from left to right) from Janice – Florida, Merilee – Florida, Laurel – North Carolina & Chris – Wisconsin.
