Following a very successful Dartmouth Mayflower 400 Education Project involving several local primary schools, and around ninety children in years 5&6, the children’s book: Stories of the Mayflower has been created. Each class has written and illustrated a different section of the Mayflower Story, and all the characters are based on actual Mayflower passengers.
Stories of the Mayflower has been selling well, and the Dartmouth Mayflower 400 Education Team decided to set up an Education Fund with some of the proceeds of the sales. This fund will enable local primary school pupils to go on educational visits to museums, art galleries and other cultural destinations, that will enrich their education. Dartmouth Mayflower 400 is pleased to announce that the first £1,000 has been transferred to Education South West for this purpose.
Jack Pemberton, Associate Principal of Dartmouth Academy said, “The pupils loved working together with other Education South West primary schools and the book is a brilliant way to showcase their work. The Education Fund is a fantastic idea and will ensure a lasting legacy for our local pupils.”
