This year the children have received books about the Mayflower story and indeed many of the children were involved in writing and illustrating the book. The book titled “Stories of the Mayflower” follows the lives of a family as they head off on the biggest adventure of their lives and the promise of a better life across the Atlantic Ocean.
As no assemblies are allowed to take place this summer the books were presented at a small ceremony outside with everyone being very careful about social distancing. Newly appointed Dartmouth Rotary President Alan Depledge and Youth Services member Jonathan Sutton handed the books over to YR6 teacher Jack Pemberton and children Millie, Daniel and Lauren. Also present and safely distanced was Nic Perrott, Associate Principal Dartmouth Academy. Head of Education for DM400 , Lindsay Ellwood said: “I am thrilled that the Rotary Club have decided to present Year 6 children with copies of the book. They must feel so proud to see their work in print!”
Money from the sale of these books will go to an education fund for the benefit of pupils in our local primary schools – all proceeds will go into that. It will fund educational activities to enhance learning, such as visits to museums and exhibitions.
